One house for all seven years

This Harry Potter house quiz sorts you into one of the four houses at Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw. In the books, every new student is placed in a house on their first night, and that house becomes their table, their dorm, and a good part of how everyone else sees them. If you've ever wondered which Harry Potter house you'd end up in, this is a quick, free Hogwarts house quiz you can take right here. Twelve questions, about two minutes, no sign-up.

Your group chat is trying to plan a trip and getting nowhere. You...

Your pick counts. The test continues from question 2.Answered. Continue in the test above.

What each house is really for

Gryffindor is for people who act first and get nervous later, if at all. Slytherin goes to the ones who know where they're headed and have the patience to get there. Hufflepuff collects the people who show up, do the work, and make sure nobody gets left behind. Ravenclaw takes the ones who can't leave a question alone until they've chased it all the way down.

No house is the good one or the bad one. Each has a real strength and a predictable way of tripping over it, and your result covers both.

No house names, no trait menu

A lot of sorting quizzes ask which quality you admire most, or whether you'd rather be brave or clever. Most people already know which house each answer points to, so they pick the house they want and learn nothing new. Here, every question is about ordinary life: a group chat that can't agree on a plan, a mistake nobody has noticed yet, a free afternoon, a night you can't sleep. No house is named in the questions and no option is labeled. You answer the way you would actually act, and your house comes out of the pattern. That's why it's harder to steer than the usual Harry Potter sorting quiz.

Who you'd share a common room with

Your result page explains what your house says about you, where you shine, where you get in your own way, and which house you'd get along with best. It's about personality, not plot, so there are no spoilers for the books or the new HBO series. Then send the link around. Friend groups almost never split evenly, and arguing over who got the wrong house is half the fun.

Questions about the Harry Potter House Quiz

Is this the official Harry Potter house quiz?

No. This is an unofficial, fan-made quiz. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by J.K. Rowling or Warner Bros.

How many questions are in the Harry Potter house quiz?

Twelve. Most people finish in about two minutes. You can go back and change earlier answers before you submit the last one.

Which Hogwarts houses can I get?

All four. You can be sorted into Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw.

Is this a Sorting Hat quiz?

In spirit, yes. In the books, a magic hat decides each student's house. Here, twelve everyday questions do that job. Each answer gives points to one or two houses, and the house with the most points at the end is yours. If two houses tie, your most recent answers decide it.

How accurate is this house quiz?

It's a fun quiz, not a psychological test, so treat it as a conversation starter. It is harder to game than most, because no question names a house or asks which trait you prefer. If you pick what you'd actually do rather than what sounds best, the result tends to land.

Is it based on the books or the HBO series?

It works for both. The quiz only uses the four houses and what each one values, which readers and viewers learn right at the start. Nothing in the questions or results depends on a specific scene.

Do you save my answers?

No. Your answers stay in your browser while you take the quiz and are never sent to a server. We don't ask for your name, email, or age.

Can I retake the quiz?

Yes, as many times as you like. Use the Retake button on your result page, or start again from this page.
